Our Sustainability Statement

At Whatmamaknits, sustainability is not a box we tick — it’s an ongoing commitment woven into every aspect of our design process. We know that small, thoughtful choices add up, and we’re constantly working to improve our impact on the world our children will inherit.

Low-Waste, Thoughtful Design

We design with a low-waste mentality at the heart of our practice. Every pattern is created to minimise yarn waste, and we keep all our scraps to turn into joyful stash-buster projects. From pom-poms to trims and small accessories, we love finding creative ways to give every metre of yarn a purpose.

Materials That Make Sense

Where possible, we choose natural fibres, recycled materials, or yarns with strong sustainability credentials. At the same time, we’re realistic: availability, accessibility and affordability matter. We encourage our knitters to select the yarns that work best for them — because sustainable crafting should feel achievable, not exclusive.

Repair, Reuse, Reimagine

We believe in keeping knits in circulation for as long as possible. That’s why we upcycle, repair, and rework our samples wherever we can. Many of our baby knits have been lovingly unravelled and transformed into new accessories or reused to create trims such as pom-poms. Extending the life of a garment is one of the simplest, most impactful things any maker can do.

Our Commitment

Sustainability is a journey, and we are committed to learning, adapting, and improving with each collection. Our goal is to tread lightly, design responsibly, and inspire our community to make conscious, joyful choices — ensuring the world remains the best possible place for our children.

Sustainable making:

ensure you understand the fibres that create your yarn and the impact the product has on our environment

Think circular can your yarn be recycled once you have finished with the garment, as a maker it is your responsibility to ensure your make can be reused or recycled or remade.
