AW25 Knit Accessory Must-Have: The Neckerchief (Yes, You Can Knit Your Own)

Every autumn brings a new must-have knitwear moment — but AW25 has delivered something small, chic, and delightfully achievable: the knitted neckerchief.

Knitted triangle scarves — also called neckerchiefs, knit bandanas or triangle wraps — are quickly becoming the accessory of the season. After years of oversized blanket scarves dominating winter wardrobes, fashion has swung toward something smaller, softer, and endlessly wearable.

This year, the knit neckerchief is everywhere: and the best part?

You can knit your own in an evening using one ball of Drops Air.

Why the Knit Neckerchief Is Trending

Fashion editors and knit-lovers agree: triangle scarves are the winter upgrade we didn’t know we needed.

1. They’re lightweight but warm

No more bulky layers bunching up under your coat. The triangular shape sits neatly at the collarbone, giving warmth exactly where you want it — without the weight of a traditional scarf.

2. Versatile styling makes them feel fresh

They’re endlessly adaptable:

  • Loosely knotted at the front for relaxed, Scandinavian winter vibes.
  • Tied to the side for a polished, preppy look.
  • Back-tied for a western bandana feel.
  • Worn like a headscarf on cold-wind days.
  • Layered under trenches or wool coats to add a pop of colour.

They give “mini scarf, maximum chic.”

3. They fit under any coat

From funnel-neck puffers to tailored wool coats, triangle scarves don’t fight with your neckline. They slip on and stay put.

4. Small enough to stash anywhere

Fold up and pop in your bag, glove box, pram basket — they warm you when you need them and vanish when you don’t.

5. They instantly finish an outfit

A knitted neckerchief adds a little flourish — the styling equivalent of lipstick on a grey day.

Material & Colour Trends

The fashion world is embracing texture this season:

Materials

  • Soft merino
  • Brushed alpaca
  • Cashmere blends
  • Cloud-soft synthetics
  • And our favourite: Drops Air — a baby alpaca blend that feels like cashmere but is far more affordable.

Colours

  • Warm neutrals (stone, oatmeal, grey)
  • Classic navy
  • Pops of red, tangerine, or cobalt
  • Two-tone combinations
  • Subtle marl shades

Design Elements

  • Fringed edges
  • Mini cables
  • Grid textures
  • Clean, minimal garter stitch for beginners

The Perfect Beginner Project: Knit Your Own Triangle Neckerchief

This is the easiest way to join the trend — and it takes just one ball of Drops Air (one of our favourite “warm-handle” affordable yarns).

Why Drops Air?
It’s extremely soft, light as a cloud, warm without being heavy, and creates that contemporary brushed, cosy look that’s everywhere this winter.
